PUBG Corp is suing Epic Games for copyright violation for their game Fortnite. “This is a measure to protect our copyrights,” reported Bloomberg
PUBG came out in march 2017, it’s a « Battle Royale » game based on the eponym movie from Japan. It’s a game genre where you are parachuted on an Island with 99 other players. The goal is to find weapons and other ressources and you have to kill opponents to be the last one standing. To develop the game, PUBG Corp worked with Epic Games and their game engine: Unreal Engine
Fortnite was originally a game where you had to push back swarms of zombies. It was released on July 2017. After that they added a Battle Royale mode in September 2017.
Both games received acclamation when they came out and met great success. PUBG is now on the decline while Fortnite continues to rise and break records
PUBG Corp first filed an injection against Epic Games in January. They now accused them of copying the guns and the interface of their game. This action has been made in South Korea. We don’t have additional details yet.
It’s not the first time they sue their competitors. They accused NetEase Games for their mobiles games: Rules of survival and Knives Out. They asked for the games to be removed from the AppStore.
For the moment Epic Games hasn't comment on this.
